Performance, pillowcase, tablecloth, saffron bulbs in bloom, ceramic table, nomadic bedding storage, 13 minutes, 2024
This was one of the most arduous performances I have ever undertaken (almost unknowingly). The position of my body made it difficult to keep my head and neck partially lifted for an extended period, forcing me to take breaks by lying fully back and focusing on my breathing before continuing.
The performance starts by taking saffron flowers, still connected to their bulbs, from a small ceramic table and then arranging them on and around my stomach area. Once a “bouquet quantity” of flowers had been placed on my body, I began separating the saffron pistils from their flowers, and eventually harvesting them and placing them on the tablecloth covering my upper body. The separated flowers were then used to embellish the long pillowcase, which was partially hung and partially draped over my body and extended onto the floor. The separated bulbs were then placed on the pillow case on the floor and next to where the flowers were in the first place.
